We found the marina to be a very friendly place to spend time in. We were offered good advice on how to travel around the mainland and the best sites to see.
Dan and Rhi Keating, Hartlepool, August 2010
Since you cannot change weather, leave everything as it is. Marinas have made big progress!

Services

Marina Cover

Marina superintendents visit the marina twice per day in the peak summer months, June to August and once per day in May and September.  Local committee members provide winter cover from October till April.  Marina staff attendence times are displayed at the gatehouse along with the marina mobile numbers and also the office contact number.  The office is run on a part-time flexible basis.  We will make every effort to answer your call whenever you ring but if you do get the answering machine please leave a message and phone number and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Security

Security of the marina site is of great importance to us.  The marina is accessible through a locked security gate. Key fobs are issued to permanent berth holders and long term visitors (those staying 3 months or more) and the 4 digit key code is changed regularly for short term visitors.  Please ensure you know the key code before leaving the marina.  If the marina superintendent is not available call the contact number provided at the gate.

Toilets/Showers/Laundry

In Stromness these facilities are located in the harbour building adjacent to the marina.  For Kirkwall visitors, new facilities adjacent to the marina are in the planning.  Until then visitors can use the shower and toilet facilities in the Orkney Sailing Club, across from the habour in Shore Street.   Laundry facilities are located a short walk away in Bridge Street.  For Westray, toilet and shower facilities are located at the marina.

Trolleys

Trolleys are available at all three marinas.

Electricity

Your electricity is included in the price of your visitor ticket for up to 6 months at all three marinas.  Visitors staying 6 months or more must be connected to a metered supply.  For Westray please ask the marina superintendent to ensure you have access to electricity.

Fuel

Red Diesel is sold at Stromness and Kirkwall marinas and will be dispensed by marina staff.  Please ensure you arrange a time for fuelling with the marina superintendent and have your boat ready at the fuel berth.  The fuel tank holds a maximum of 1400 litres so if you require a large amount please advise in advance.  If you wish to fill a canister a maximum of 4 x 20 litre cans can be filled during busy periods.

Petrol and Gas

Not available at the marinas but closeby.  Please see the marina brochure for local suppliers.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome but should be kept on a leash while at the Marina and should fouling occur, clean it up!

Wi-Fi

Wi-fi is available at Stromness and Westray.  Please speak to the marina staff if you have any difficulties.  Installation of wi-fi at Kirkwall marina is planned for the 2011 summer season.  In the meantime, public access is available at The Shore and The Kirkwall Hotel located directly across from the marina on Shore Road.
